Updates existing contacts with information from the CSV file
Includes options to customize how new contacts are added and existing contacts are updated

This plugin is used to display widget in sidebar which contains posts with the thumbnail and post excerpt (POST + THUMBNAIL + POST_EXCERPT) which are from same selected category.

Automattic CEO Toni Schneider will be presenting at the Freemium Summit taking place in San Francisco at the Mission Bay Conference Center on March 26th 2010. The price for admission is $449.00 which is a reality check to anyone who is used to attending a WordCamp. However, there will be a number of speakers from companies that are in the middle of capitalizing on the hybrid business model of free mixed with premium. Speakers such as Tom Conrad of Pandora, Phil Libin of Evernote, Lincoln Murphy of Sixteen Ventures, and Ben Chestnut of Mailchimp will be on hand.
Although I won’t be in attendance for this summit, I plan on doing something similar on my own through WordPress Weekly for the month of April. Each week will be dedicated to a specific commercialization aspect of WordPress. We’ll cover themes, plugins, services, and at the end of the month, have a wrap-up show. Jake Goldman, one of the organizers for WordCamp Boston will be joining me on these shows as a co-host. I’m currently in the middle of getting the round table of speakers set for each week. Keep an eye out on the WordPress Weekly category as when I have things set in stone, I’ll announce them there.

Raphael Mudge has published an interesting post that talks about re-thinking the relationship with the spell checker. His post made me reflect on just how dependent I’ve become on services such as After The Deadline or the built-in spell checker inside of FireFox. There used to be a time when I could easily spell big words when writing them down on paper or saying the letters out loud. Those days are long gone. When I write content and it comes to using a big word, I’ll make the first try a good guess hoping that I got close enough to the word that FireFox will suggest the one I was trying to use.
I imagine that not writing words down on paper with pen is one of the biggest reasons for my lack of ability to spell. Grammar to me is an after thought. I also wonder if I should put myself in a little experiment where I disable all spell checkers for one week to see how I do. If anyone else is willing to go through this same experiment, let me know in the comments. We can give it a try for a week and report our findings.
Can anyone else admit that spelling and grammar checkers have become a large crutch?
IntenseDebate has announced two new features, a moderator role and comment voting. IntenseDebate has always allowed users to assign multiple admins to help in administering the comments but these admins had full permissions to change various settings such as the blog account. Therefor, this required a fair bit of trust in the users you chose to be helper admins. The moderator role changes that.
Now you can promote any IntenseDebate or WordPress.com user to help moderate comments without having to give them full access to your account settings.
Moderators will have access to the moderation and comment history pages. They’ll also be able to remove comments that are out-of-line directly from the comment section which is convenient. I wonder if IntenseDebate will at some point create their own user roles/capabilities system or if they will keep things simple with pre-defined roles such as the Moderator position.
IntenseDebate has also added the option to disable thumbs-down voting just in case you want to make your comment system look a little more positive. I have to question why someone would want to enable that feature. Maybe Michael can fill me in on that.
All the credit for this plugin goes to Rich Fuller and is entirely based on his tutorial for hacking BuddyPress to remove non-friend updates from the activity stream. I simply packaged it up and made it a plugin, because I believe that it is an extremely useful modification to BuddyPress from a community-building perspective, and I wanted it to be easily available to whoever wants it.
Removing non-friend updates from the activity stream makes sense for a number of reasons. It builds meaningful relationships between community members who have chosen to be friends. Instead of seeing all updates for all users of the community, the user will be better able to keep up with his friends by seeing only their updates, which are probably of greater interest to him. This will enrich the user’s experience on your site far more than if you throw updates from all members at him. For a very active BuddyPress community, all updates can be simply too much information to process and can cause the user to devalue your site.
The Friends-Only Activity Stream plugin will limit the activity stream for general users to postings from their friends only. The admin user will see all activities, regardless of friendship. This plugin removes activity stream postings from non-friends all together with the exception of the admin and public groups. Right now WPMU.org is the only place you can download it. It should also be available in the WordPress.org repo soon. Simply install it, activate it, and it works! Many thanks to Rich Fuller for his work on this handy hack.
If you have recently in the past few hours logged in to your Google Reader you might have noticed a link to Google Reader Play. This is a concept where you can look up random and interesting articles on Google Reader with a very different and interesting layout. The layout of reader does not change and Reader Play is a totally different landing page. One playing around a bit with it, there is one website which surely must have started feeling a bit jittery.
That website would be Stumble Upon. Take a look at the image below and do not be mistaken. It is the layout for configuring the web pages you come across with Google Reader Play.
Unlike Reader you do not necessarily have to sign-in to view random and interesting web pages.
The format is unique as in your do not see the entire page but just images and a bit of text and link to the page.
This means images have become the key for getting a good viewing experience with Google Reader Plus.
Why Stumble Upon might feel the heat?
Websites like Stumble Upon or Digg deal with a community which promotes and drives traffic to websites. The fear is with Google being the number one search engine, what stops it from giving more and more relevance to a reader recommending an article on Google Reader rather than any other social media?
This sort of randomized looking at articles is very popular and I must say Google Reader Play does have a interesting and eye catching layout. I wonder now if they will take on websites like Stumble Upon and further end up dominating all facets of the internet or is this just a quirky service Google sometimes comes up with but hardly follows up on.
Try out Google Reader Play and write in your comments. I will surely be wanting to read your opinions.
As I already mentioned in that article, Indiatimes does not provide total dns control to its customers. There are, however, two ways you can get your dns settings done.
1) Providing details to Indiatimes tech-support team
You can mail the Indiatimes web-support team at “websupport[at]indiatimes.co.in” with the required cname, aname and mx records. For me it took 5 days, 4 e-mails and 5 phone calls before the changes were finally made, but ideally you will get it done within 2 working days.
2) Manage your dns through another domain vendor who provides total dns control
This is my preferred way, because you get full control of your dns settings. There are many registrars who provide this service for free. I will tell you how to do it with GoDaddy Offsite DNS.

This plugin offers wordpress administrator a method of updating all of their blog images at once after changes have been made to the Media Upload settings.
Once this plugin installed, you will find a new link at “Media” in Admin Menu. This link is called “Scan Images”. Click this link and then click the “Start Scan” button. This will scan every single image attachment on wordpress installation. Report items with a green header are in “Perfect Condition” while items with a red background are incorrect and may or may not be resizable by wordpress.
