Just a few days ago, Google announced its arrival into the rather competitive market of URL shorteners. And what better way to promote it, than by combining the popular google service-Feedburner, and twitter!
Most of the publishers earlier used twitterfeed.com for posting auto-mated RSS feeds to twitter. Over time as more and more people began to use it, I’ve found the site to be rather slow. Also many issues related to logging in to twitterfeed were also reported.
As many of the publishers already use feedburner to provide RSS feeds via e-mail, it would not only be convenient to use the all new feed to twitter service from Google, but would also give you the Google guarantee! So here’s how to do it.
Procedure:
- Login at the feedburner using your Google account.
- Select the feed that you want to publish to twitter.
- Click on the Publicize tab.

- After that, click on the Socialize option, from the services menu to the left.

- Now click on the Add a Twitter Account button to add a twitter account to your feedburner account.
- You will now be redirected to the twitter site. Login, if haven’t done so already. You will be asked to ‘Allow Google access?‘ Click on Allow.

- Now that you have been redirected, select the twitter account you want your RSS feeds to be published to (only in case you have added multiple twitter accounts only.)
- You can configure the available options, to your liking and then click on the Activate button at the bottom.
That’s it. Now whenever you post an article on your blog, the moment feedburner gets updated a tweet will be sent to your twitter account.
Advantages:
- Its a google service and integrated into the feedburner panel.
- Faster: Unlike twitterfeed, which checked your feed only once in the previously set custom time interval, this service tweets your post as soon as the feedburner feed is updated (which is rather quick).
- The post URL’s are shortened using google’s all new URL shortener; goo.gl.

This is how your Twitter Updates will appear

Somebody asked on Twitter for a way to add author avatars to posts, so this tutorial is partially in response to that. It’s also a helpful community building tool, because readers know where they are and who is speaking to them. This is a quick hack that will instantly add more personality to your posts, especially when you have lot of blogs running on your network and you’d like to give more detail about the authors. Just pop this little hack into your functions.php file and voila! You’ll get a little something like this:

I want to credit Lam Nguyen for this helpful little hack that I found in his post on this topic.
function get_author_bio ($content=''){
global $post;
$post_author_name=get_the_author_meta("display_name");
$post_author_description=get_the_author_meta("description");
$html="<div class='clearfix' id='about_author'>\n";
$html.="<img width='80' height='80' class='avatar' src='http://www.gravatar.com/avatar.php?gravatar_id=".md5(get_the_author_email()). "&default=".urlencode($GLOBALS['defaultgravatar'])."&size=80&r=PG' alt='PG'/>\n";
$html.="<div class='author_text'>\n";
$html.="<h4>Author: <span>".$post_author_name."</span></h4>\n";
$html.= $post_author_description."\n";
$html.="</div>\n";
$html.="<div class='clear'></div>\n";
$content .= $html;
return $content;
}
add_filter('the_content', 'get_author_bio');
This hack will need to be present in the functions.php file of each of the themes that you make available to your users on your site, if you want the author bio section to show on their posts as well.
After you add this little piece of code, use your Firebug or whatever other tool you like, to target your selectors so that you can make the bio box pretty with CSS. Enjoy!

Blogging has been the one single thing that has changed the face of the internet and made it what it is today. With the start of blogging, internet really became a democratic place, where anyone has the freedom to write and share his/her thoughts with the world.
Making a new blog is what a person dreams of when it comes to social networking. But what hinders the path is the thought of Designing, Maintaining & Contributing to the blog. In the busy lives of today, very few people have time dedicated to blogging. Today, I want to share with you, how can you make a blog of your own, and that too, without designing, subscribing or even registering for anything!

And, the magic wand is Posterous. With this service, you don’t have to worry about:
- Designing
- Implementing
- Maintenance
The two steps to be followed to create a full fledged blog are:
- Email anything to post@posterous.com (you can attach photo/video/mp3 files along)
- You’ll get an instant reply with your new blog address.
Now, is there anything (with that I really mean, anything) much simpler to do on the whole internet? Having a blog of your own without even a registration hindrance? To my knowledge there is nothing like it. You can update your blog on the fly from your computer or even from your cell phone. You have upto 1 GB personal space on Posterous.
Have a great idea? Just mail it to your posterous mail and it will be published.

I’ll be out of town starting next week and although I think I’ll have a few posts of my own that I will schedule, I’m wondering if anyone within the community is interested in writing a guest blog post for this site? The article should be submitted through the WPTavern post submission form located here:
http://www.wptavern.com/submit-a-post
If your post has images, temporarily link to them in the post from an image host such as image shack. I will upload the images to WPTavern and put them in the right place. I’m looking for any posts within the following categories.
WordPress.org, WordPress MU, BuddyPress, Theme Review, Plugin Review, bbPress, Blogging
I’ve already had a few people volunteer to write a post for the site. If you can have the post submitted to WPTavern before the end of the day this Saturday, I would really appreciate it.

Today’s post brings you a little goodie. I looked for this before and couldn’t find one. Basically, it’s pretty simple: we used a function included with the List All plugin, and made it a widget with the new widget class for 2.8.
New Members Widget (0)
Available to anyone on the system, it shows a linked list of the last ten public blogs created on the site. You’ll also need a copy of List All for this to work, or you’ll get a nasty WSOD at best, or unusable widgets at worst. Especially if you try this on 2.7 with the old widget method. (see my build a blank widget for widgets before 2.8)
If you’re using Listem instead, you’ll need to change the function name in the widget.

Finding prefect icons for blogs, websites or something else is pretty hard. I have faced many problems while searching for pretty icons. I found many but not in one place. Today, I came across an interesting link- Iconfinder.net. It helped me get many kinds of icon sets, all in one place.

Icon finder is basically an icon search engine, which can allow us to find prefect icons for blogs, websites, etc. All you need to do is just search for the kind of icon you want to have and it will show it to you.
You can download them in 2 formats. First, PNG and second, ICO. That means you can use these icons like a favicon icon and add them to your blog or website. You can also change background of these icons.
Also you can browse there icon set. They have 159 icon sets. You can search them via browsing iconfinder.net. And if you have an icon set you want to add to Iconfinder, you can contact them at here.
So, start having fun by using these beautiful icons and give a better design and look to your blog and website.
